Meet Courtney Tamaro from the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team of Virginia Tech (HEVT). The team has been competing in Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions (AVTCs) for nearly 20 years with EcoCAR 3 being the latest competition. Tamaro is a double major at Virginia Tech studying both mechanical engineering and Spanish. In her role as the mechanical team leader, she is tasked with ensuring all mechanical deliverables are on schedule to meet deadlines. Prior to EcoCAR 3, she spent both semesters as an independent study student with HEVT and assisted in writing the proposal for their team to enter the EcoCAR3 competition.
Outside of HEVT, she is a member of the salsa dancing club and likes to travel. As if she wasn’t busy enough, Tamaro is also president of the Appalachia Service Project, a charity organization where students build and repair homes for low-income families in the state.
Working with the EcoCAR 3 team has given Tamaro a range of opportunities, including exciting internships and exposure to sponsors that are impressed by the interdisciplinary aspect of the program. Watch the video below to learn more about her.
