ABOUT US

Team Description: Vision: Building the Vehicles of Tomorrow, Today! Mission: Originally located in a small garage in the University of Waterloo’s physics building, a group of engineering students wanted to make a difference in vehicle design and encourage sustainable practices. At UWAFT, we continuously break new boundaries in the field of transportation through innovation, technology and active student engagement. History: UWAFT was established in 1996 as one of only a few design teams at the University of Waterloo. Located originally in a physic’s building, a small group of engineering students wanted to make a difference in vehicle design and encourage sustainable practices. Since 1996, UWAFT has participated in five competitions that have tested the limits of our team with vehicles from the Silverado to the Camaro. The team has grown exponentially since then and now boasts 170+ students helping out in a multitude of ways. Both the Communications and Technical teams are working together to exceed the requirements of the new competition. Fall 2018 is the beginning of the four year EcoCAR Mobility Challenge where 12 teams in North America will convert a Chevrolet Blazer RS gas vehicle into a hybrid plug-in one. The technical team will also be working on adding vehicle-to-vehicle communication, vehicle-to-infrastructure communication and human-machine-interfaces to the Blazer to make driving as safe as possible. The Communications team will be working on blog post submissions, hosting youth outreach events, fundraising for sponsorship dollars and compiling the Youth Outreach Report for the end of Year One.   Team Members: Faculty Advisors: Dr Roydon Fraser and Teresa Marcon Project Manager: Bade Akinsanya Engineering Manager: Derrick Tan Communications Manager: Katie Stroud (to be replaced by Rashid Karimi for Winter 2019) PSI Lead: Vats Saini, Vaibhav Patel, Peter Hudlicky CSMS Lead: Cole Powers, Michael Wu, Jake McGrory, Adian O'Gorman CAVs Lead: Tim Mui, Jack Mo, Sumeet Kler, Jaskaran Basson
