EcoCAR EV Challenge Fall Workshop wraps in Davis, CA

From October 7 – 9, 2022 teams, sponsors, and organizers gathered at the University of California, Davis for the EcoCAR EV Challenge Year 1 Fall Workshop.

Throughout the 3-day workshop, students received a wide variety of hands-on training in the areas of engineering, communications, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) from competition sponsors such as General Motors, MathWorks, AAM, ONE, Magna and more. These training sessions are essential for teams in order to better prepare them to tackle their upcoming engineering challenges throughout this series.

During the EcoCAR EV Challenge, teams will identify and address specific equity and electrification issues in mobility through the application of innovative hardware and software solutions and outreach to underserved communities and underrepresented youth. To prepare students for the Equity in Mobility: Community Challenge activity, university teams attended an event at the Del Paso Heights Mobility Hub, hosted by Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District and Sacramento Clean Cities. This event provided teams with an understanding of mobility inequities in underserved communities, an opportunity for networking, and a tour of the Mobility Hub.

In addition to the training and workshops, job-seeking students had the opportunity to attend the Sponsor Social Networking & Recruitment event to meet with over a dozen EcoCAR industry sponsors hiring for internships and full & part time positions.

With the conclusion of this event, teams are now back at their universities and charged to take on Year 1 of the series. Throughout the fall, teams will receive additional webinar-style virtual training from competition sponsors.

Stay tuned for the next in-person workshop in Austin, TX February 2023!
