Siemens Sponsorship: Providing Endless Possibilities for EcoCAR Teams

Written by: Natalia Alvarez Rodriguez

One aspect that sets the EcoCAR experience apart from any other collegiate experience is the invaluable support and mentorship provided by sponsors such as Siemens. Receiving mentorship and having direct communication with industry professionals is an unparalleled experience that provides team members with training and professional skills that prepare them for a prolific career in any field they go into, especially the automotive industry.  In this spotlight, we shine a light on the remarkable partnership between Siemens and the Georgia Tech EcoCAR team, illustrating how it’s driving innovation and shaping the future of automotive engineering.

Siemens, a German powerhouse in technology, traces its roots back to 1847. Over the years, it has evolved into the present-day Siemens corporation, renowned for its advancements in automation, digitalization, and technology solutions across various industries. As a sponsor, Siemens brings not only financial support but also a wealth of resources and expertise to the table, making a significant impact on the EcoCAR program, and any student member.

Siemens first sponsored AVTCs during the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Challenge held from 1992-1995, and since then, has provided steadfast support for EcoCAR teams nationwide. One of their greatest contributions is through their industry-leading software, Siemens NX. For the Georgia Tech EcoCAR team, this software is more than just a tool for Computer-Aided Design (CAD); it’s a catalyst for creativity and innovation. Whether it’s designing intricate components or simulating complex systems, Siemens NX empowers students to turn their ideas into reality.

But Siemens’ support doesn’t stop there. Recognizing the importance of proper training, they provide free online courses through the Xcelerator Academy, ensuring that team members have the skills and knowledge to maximize the potential of their software. This commitment to education and skill development not only enhances the capabilities of individual team members but also fosters a culture of learning and improvement within the team.

Siemens goes above and beyond by providing essential hardware, such as the charger for the Cadillac LYRIQ, the vehicle at the center of Georgia Tech’s EcoCAR project. By equipping teams with the tools they need to tackle real-world challenges, Siemens enables them to push the boundaries of innovation and redefine what’s possible in the automotive industry. Perhaps most importantly, Siemens understands the value of diversity and inclusivity in driving innovation. By welcoming students from varying majors and levels of experience, they enrich the EcoCAR team with fresh perspectives and new ideas. Through their support, Siemens creates a space where creativity thrives, and boundaries are surpassed.

Siemens’ sponsorship of the Georgia Tech EcoCAR team exemplifies their unwavering commitment to innovation, education, and industry partnership. Together, they are not only shaping the future of automotive engineering but also nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators. As we look ahead, it’s clear that with sponsors like Siemens by their side, the possibilities for EcoCAR teams are endless.
