About
Jackson State University (Jackson, Miss.) is partnering with Hinds Community College (Raymond, Miss.) to compete as one of 12 teams in the three-year Battery Workforce Challenge collegiate competition.
Mission
The mission of this project is to serve as a regional model for promoting excellence in batteries and electric vehicles education, to empower educators to confidently implement BEV education initiatives and to support the development of a diverse, interdisciplinary, well-prepared workforce of scientists, technicians, engineers, mathematicians and educators that will enhance the quality of life of all citizens.
In addition, the Jackson State University & Hinds Community College Battery Workforce Challenge team will also develop and implement an undergraduate EV technology concentration and graduate certificate programs.
Goals
Year one goals for the Jackson State University & Hinds Community College Battery Workforce Challenge team include:
- Promote the advancement of EVs in the auto industry and in the academic field
- Help produce a battery workforce of scientists, technicians and graduates
- Set up our lab, power-charging wall and garage before the end of the year
- Integrate all required disciplines and teams comprehensively into the project
