dSPACE AUTERA hands-on workshop

This weekend, dSPACE will be hosting an AUTERA Hands-on Workshop at their facility in Wixom, MI.

The dSPACE AUTERA Hands-on Workshop will welcome EcoCAR Connected and Automated (CAV) and Systems Design and Integration (SDI) Subteam members and give students their first experience using the AUTERA AutoBoxes. AUTERA assists in the development of applications for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving. It can be used to log extensive data volumes during test drives for homologation, replaying data at a later stage, or training neural networks. The AUTERA compute platform is among one of the many CAV software development tools donated by dSPACE for the EV Challenge.

During this competition series, teams are responsible for building their own CAV systems from the ground up. The first step to accomplishing this is designing the hardware configurations of their CAV systems. AUTERA is one of the key components of the full stack of controllers, sensors and radios that will be used in the CAV systems. Many teams will be integrating an AUTERA AutoBox into their Cadillac LYRIQ as one of the main controllers for CAV features. Teams will be using the AUTERA for CAV software modules such as: raw data processing of team-added sensors, sensor fusion, localization, path planning, optimal controls, and more.

“dSPACE has a long history of supporting STEM education both at the K-12 levels through sponsorship of student teams in the FIRST Robotics competitions, as well as the post-secondary school levels like EcoCAR, said dSPACE Vice President of Sales, Vivek Moudgal. “We are excited to welcome EcoCAR teams to our facility over the next two days to train CAV and SDI students on AUTERA and give them experience using software development and validation tools they will frequently encounter when they enter the job market.”

For this weekend’s workshop, dSPACE will be taking teams through the step-by-step process for setting up their AUTERAs from unboxing to running custom sensor data processing modules. By the end of the workshop, teams will be prepared to start developing and integrating custom software and hardware onto the AUTERA. Teams will learn powering and general usage of the AUTERA, connecting custom sensors to their AUTERA, communicating with LYRIQ stock CAN buses and how to run custom CAV software. This hands-on workshop with dSPACE’s CAVs subject matter experts will launch students’ deployment of CAV systems for the EcoCAR EV Challenge.
