Earth PM Prepares for the Fall Workshop

From May 29-June 4, 2015, teams gathered for the EcoCAR 3 Year One in Seattle, WA to compete in technical, communications, and project management events. Throughout the week, students will share their efforts over this last year with industry experts and judges to highlight the viability of their advanced technology vehicle designs.EarthPM is excited and honored to be part of this journey with EcoCAR 3.  It is our passion to improve the capabilities of the project managers in particular, and even more so to interact with the teams improve the projects and their outcomes.

EcoCAR 3 can be identified as a project with a defined start and end, use of limited resources, and a unique outcome with expected requirements. Since projects take place in an uncertain environment (by definition, having not been done before), the projects themselves will undergo change. Change is not only what any project is about, it is really the fabric of the projects themselves. How a team deals with that change is critical.  Changes to a technical specification, for example, can lead to new threats and opportunities.

In the Earth PM sessions, Project Managers can expect training focused on the disciplined approach to change management, as well as risk and risk response. Additionally, students will be able to identify the important relationship between Quality, Risk, Requirements, Expectations, Change, and Scope.  Earth PM will also be working one-on-one with the teams  to tune up their risk registers, looking in particular at the teams’ approach to scoring impact and probability, and preparedness for leading risks.

At the Year Two Fall Workshop, Earth PM is looking forward to the opportunity to work with all of the participating teams to make each project more successful and also provide students with improved project management capability for this project!
