EcoCAR Year 3 Fall Workshop: A Launchpad for Innovation and Collaboration

The EcoCAR Year 3 Fall Workshop at MathWorks headquarters has now wrapped and students are  back at their universities, equipped with fresh knowledge and invigorated enthusiasm as they gear up for another exciting year in the EcoCAR EV Challenge.

This year’s workshop featured 76 unique training sessions that explored topics from Optimizing Mechanical & Electrical Systems to the Fundamentals of User-Centric Design. Over 70 industry experts from EcoCAR sponsors delivered this training, offering their firsthand experience and knowledge on these topics that are critical in the fast-evolving world of electric vehicles.

Students and headline sponsors took center stage as they interviewed with 22 different media outlets across the U.S., showcasing their projects and the incredible work happening within the EcoCAR Challenge during the Satellite Media Tour. This exposure not only highlighted the students’ achievements but also shed light on teams’ work in Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs).

On Friday evening, MathWorks hosted a Team Appreciation Night at their HQ that included yard games, friendship bracelet making, and the highlight—an authentic lobster feast! It was a chance for participants to unwind, forge lasting friendships, and celebrate their collective accomplishments.

For many students, the workshop also served as a crucial stepping stone in their professional journey. Last year alone, over 150 companies hired 200+ EcoCAR students.  This year’s Sponsor Social presented the opportunity for full time job and internship seeking students to connect directly with EcoCAR sponsors with their resumes in-hand, with the hopes of kickstarting their careers.

As the EcoCAR teams return to their campuses, they carry with them significant skills and knowledge gained from the workshop, and a sense of purpose and community. The Fall Workshop has undoubtedly set the stage for an incredible year ahead.

The excitement is just beginning! Stay tuned as we follow the progress of these future leaders in the EcoCAR EV Challenge.
