Congratulations to McMaster University EcoCAR 3 Facuty Advisor, Dr. Ali Emadi, who has been named Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
The National Academy of Inventors recognizes those who “recognize and encourage inventors with patents issued from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, enhance the visibility of academic technology and innovation, encourage the disclosure of intellectual property, educate and mentor innovative students, and translate the inventions of its members to benefit society.” To achieve the Fellow status, individuals are nominated by their peers for exceptional contributions to innovation. Dr. Emadi is recognized for his work in transportation electrification and smart mobility.
Not only does Dr. Emadi have a significant impact on his peers, he also sets a leading example for his EcoCAR 3 team and provides students with an invaluable experience. According to Alison Bayzat, McMaster EcoCAR 3 Project Manager,”Dr. Emadi provides students on the McMaster Engineering EcoCAR 3 Team with unparalleled, cross disciplinary learning opportunities. All students that work with Dr. Emadi throughout the competition gain industry level skills that will be highly beneficial over the course of their careers.”
According to the McMaster EcoCAR 3 team, Dr. Emadi has been instrumental in the educational renaissance taking place at McMaster University and is extremely invested in the learning of students both academically and through real world problems that students face as future leaders. “Dr. Emadi’s continuous support has helped us grow not only as students but as future engineers,” said Megan Wood, McMaster EcoCAR 3 Electrical Lead. She added, “His passion for our learning pushes us to achieve new heights. With his help we are able to take the theory learned in class and apply it in a unique experiential learning environment at the world class McMaster Automotive Resource Centre. The McMaster Engineering EcoCAR 3 team is lucky to have him as one of our faculty advisors.”
By taking learning outside the classroom, Dr. Emadi is giving his students the ability to apply what they have learned in class to a real world, high performance, and practical engineering problem with limited boundaries. “Dr. Emadi’s support is what enables us to succeed at the highest level,” said John Reimers, Engineering Manager. “He consistently pushes us to achieve more than what we ever thought possible and allows us to learn through real hands on engineering. The world class automotive research facility Dr. Emadi has given the team access to provides us with opportunities for advanced technical development and testing unique to McMaster. His competitive spirit and technical acumen make him an invaluable motivator and advisor to all of us.”
In addition to his role as the lead Faculty Advisor on the McMaster EcoCAR 3 program, Dr. Emadi is a professor of electrical and computer engineering, and mechanical engineering at McMaster. He is also Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Hybrid Powertrain and director of McMaster Institute for Automotive Research and Technology (MacAUTO). Dr. Emadi is the recipient of countless awards and recognitions, he is the author/co-author of over 300 journal articles and conference papers, and has over 40 U.S. patents and patents pending.
On April 6, 2017, all Fellows from 2016 will be inducted at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum in Boston, MA in honor of the Sixth Annual Conference of the National Academy of Inventors.
