Meet UNLV’s vocational liaison Brandon Benton

Meet Brandon Benton, the University of Nevada Las Vegas and College of Southern Nevada’s ambitious vocational liaison for their Battery Workforce Challenge team. Brandon is a fourth year UNLV electrical engineering undergraduate, and he attributes his  inspiration to go into the STEM field to his curiosity.

“Ever since I was a kid, I have enjoyed music, film and photography. I wanted to learn more about what goes on beyond the surface and see how technology can bring these things to life,” Benton said. “I believe electrical engineering can both lead me to a great future career as well as deepen my connection with these things I have received so much enjoyment from.”

Q: What excites you the most about the BattCallenge?
A: ”Getting to work with a modern development within the automotive industry.”

Q: What are you hoping to take away from this experience?
A: “I am hoping not only to get the practical experience and practical engineering experience, but I am also hoping to meet other likeminded individuals who are very driven and passionate about making a difference in the world.”

Q: What made you want to join your BattChallenge team?
A: “I wanted to get more experience outside of what I am learning in lectures and my lab classes. “

Q: What is the reason behind your decision to take on your current BattChallenge role?
A: “I took on this role because I think that communication is essential to having a good team. I am also very interested in the work that the vocational school will be doing with us during the course of this project.”

Going through these questions, Brandon opened our eyes and showed us how lucky we are to have such driven and talented teammates. He will continue to be a strong member on our team, and we will do everything in our power to not only help him but everyone else on the team to reach their individual goals.
