Throughout the EcoCAR 2 competition, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (RHIT) EcoCAR 2 Team has strived to make an impact on their local community in Terre Haute, Indiana. During year three of the competition, the team has been implementing their RHIT EcoCAR 2: Sustainable City campaign by meeting with Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett and various other eco-friendly organizations in the Wabash Valley area.
Recently, the team joined forces with Indiana State University for the Our Green Valley Alliance for Sustainability conference, which brings together members of the community and numerous sustainable organizations to discuss the Going Green initiative of Terre Haute. RHIT EcoCAR 2 has been a part of the alliance throughout the entirity of the EcoCAR 2 competition.
Speaking about the Our Green Valley Alliance for Sustainability, Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett said that “one of the things that I really appreciate about this community is your engagement and effort to sustain things. I have always been impressed by this group and the efforts of everyone. Everyone has their own idea of what we should be doing as a community and I think that is the part that needs to be brought together, and that is what this group has done.”
On February 6th the RHIT team will be joining forces with their local Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition to visit the Indiana State House and attended Clean Cities’ 11th Annual Indiana Legislator Luncheon and Alternative Fuels and Technologies Expo. They will be given the opportunity to meet with their local legislators and representatives to discuss alternative fuel options.
