The EcoCAR Mobility Challenge Year 2 Winter Workshop has come to an end, and EcoCAR teams are back at their campuses after 3 days filled with valuable training, new professional connections, and an unforgettable experience in Austin, TX.
The Year 2 Winter Workshop was hosted by NXP Semiconductors at their facility in Austin. Teams received extensive training and attended various seminar-style sessions from competition-level sponsors. Students also had the exclusive opportunity to participate in a series of one-on-one sessions with industry subject matter experts.
“It was great to host the EcoCAR Winter Workshop here in Austin this past week,” said Fred Berneche, NXP Global Director of University Programs. “I was so impressed by the students and the progress that most teams made the week using our V2X technology. It is energizing to see a team of students working together from multiple disciplines to solve such a complex set of problems. This is a wonderful experience for the schools, the teams and sponsors like NXP to harness the potential of these young students to help drive innovation and the next generation of technology and solutions.”
In addition to training, teams delivered their first presentations of the year, the Project Status Update Presentation. The purpose of this presentation is for Project Managers to convey the current status of their team and identify what adjustments are needed to their Execution Plan for the spring semester to accomplish Year 2 Vehicle Design Process (VDP) goals. This presentation provided an opportunity for teams to receive real-time feedback on presentation skills from a panel of experts, specifically focused on presentation quality, which was a focus area of training last week.
During the workshop, teams had the chance to network and connect with recruiters from EcoCAR sponsors during the Sponsor Social in downtown Austin. Students arrived with resumes in-hand and were able to learn about the various internships and employment opportunities with our sponsors.
To wrap up the workshop, teams, sponsors and organizers gathered at the local Buffalo Billiards for the EcoCAR Fun Night, hosted by NXP. They enjoyed an evening of mingling, playing arcade games, and a few friendly rounds of ping pong.
