It’s Day 3 at the General Motors Milford Proving Grounds and the EcoCAR 3 teams are working hard on their vehicles. We caught up with a few of the students and here is what they had to say about the competition so far:
Josh Carroll Arizona State University
I feel quite proud of what my team has put together and I feel that we have a good showing at competition. Being able to compare how our vehicle looks and runs as compared to the other teams is something we are looking forward to. We’d like to get through safety tech today, and once we pass that milestone, we are optimistic that we are going to do really well all the events.
Matt Bergman West Virginia University
We were all excited for what was the first competition for most of us. We have a relatively new team, and we wanted to see what others teams were doing and show them what we have been doing. We are so excited to really put our car to the test and see how we compare. We had a few rough patches on the first day, but we are in safety tech now, and things are going really smoothly.
Cody Knobel Colorado State University
Most of us graduated the day before we flew to competition, so it’s been hectic, but the car looked great when we got here! One of the biggest challenges was planning ahead when we were packing and deciding what we’d need for our car for the competition, but I think we prepared pretty well and things are going smooth for us.
It’s really cool to see all teams here and in an environment where we are doing all the same thing instead of at home in our own garage. I’m most proud of our team; people have just poured their heart and time into this competition and it’s been really cool to see how passionate they are because I’m passionate about it, too.
Nick Tomczak Ohio State University
We have our sights set on making sure that the car performs in the same way it did when we tested it at home because we want to do the best we can at all the events. We were excited to be first team through safety tech, so we celebrated that win, but we are staying focused on all the other events we need to do, including the rest of the dynamic ones and the presentations here and in DC, so as soon as we passed we immediately began preparing for those.
Jared Nordman Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
It is exciting to be here at the Milford Proving Grounds. It is interesting to see the facilities where a few of my teammates will be working out of beginning this summer. The competition has been close with a 15 point spread coming into Milford and it’s anyone’s game. ERAU has been pushing hard to get out on the road to show the judges and sponsors what we have been working on all year. We are excited to see how the car performs out on the track!
