Ohio State’s EcoCAR program continues to pave the way for students to excel in the automotive and engineering industries. Alumni Ian Campbell and Dominic Dallago showcase how the program transforms academic experience into real-world success.

Ian Campbell, now a CAE Engineer in the automotive industry, spent six years on the EcoCAR team, four as an Systems Design and Integration (SDI) team member and two as team lead. His current role involves running Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations and using Computer-aided design (CAD) design to ensure part quality and fitment—skills he developed directly through EcoCAR. Ian credits the program for teaching him how to translate technical knowledge into practical applications. His favorite EcoCAR memory? Winning the Year 2 competition, an achievement that solidified his passion for teamwork and innovation.
Dominic Dallago, now an E-Powertrain Controls Engineer at Caterpillar, also attributes his professional success to his EcoCAR experience. As PCM team lead from 2022 to 2024, Dominic worked extensively with MATLAB, vector tools, controls strategies, and electrical routing—expertise he now applies in developing and validating electric powertrain controls for large mining trucks and equipment. Dominic’s favorite memory of EcoCAR is the camaraderie he shared with teammates, a reminder that the program fosters not only technical growth but also strong personal connections.

Both Ian and Dominic’s journeys highlight the lasting impact of EcoCAR on their careers. From hands-on technical training to invaluable industry insights, the program prepares students to succeed in cutting-edge roles. As these alumni contribute to advancements in automotive and powertrain technology, their stories serve as an inspiration for current EcoCAR members to embrace challenges, innovate, and leave their mark on the industry.
