Year 4 Fall Workshop Recap

Another workshop has wrapped up, and students have new skills and tool with which to tackle Year 4.

The Year 4 Fall Workshop was held at the MathWorks headquarters in Natick, MA, and students participated in dozens of training sessions, from ADAS training to MatLAB, to risk management in the project management track, to media training in the communications track. Here’s what some of the students had to say:

MK2My favorite session was the one where GM representatives gave us a deep dive of the engine. We learned a lot about how to monitor the catalyst and how to create a control strategy to reduce emissions. The deep dive on the transmission will be especially helpful to us, we learned a lot. We’ve had a lot of challenges with our transmission shifting and the shift schedule and this deep dive was extremely helpful in order for us to stay on track and move forward.   – Matt Kemery – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – SMS Lead

The workshop was even more intense than I thought! It reminded us how much work there is to do this year. EDSince I’m the CSMS team lead for our team, the CSMS training session was very valuable to me. Most of the training focused on plant models, and since our car will be stationary a lot this year, we are going to need to use models to optimize our control code. I also enjoyed the ride and handling session, it gave a good understanding of how the vehicle dynamics work and what is desired for different market bases.    – Ethan Dietrich – Virginia Tech – CSMS Team Lead

AB2I really valued the project management session on project auditing. In that session, all the Project Managers reported on what their teams were doing, what issues they are facing, and how they are addressing those issues. It’s a really cool opportunity to hear a snapshot of what all the teams are doing, and it’s a very collaborative space where you can get good advice from other Project Managers and from the industry experts giving the training.  I’ve also heard great feedback from the rest of my team on the other sessions at workshop, especially the one on one sessions with industry leaders, where we got great advice and assistance in plans for our vehicle.    – Alison Bayzat – McMaster University – Project Manager

A special thanks to MathWorks for opening your doors to provide the facilities to make this workshop possible, as well as all EcoCAR 3 sponsors!
