EcoCAR Student Innovation on Display at ITEC 2025 Poster Session

For more than a decade, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Transportation Electrification Conference (ITEC) has served as IEEE’s premier conference on transportation electrification, fostering connections between industry and academia.

This year’s ITEC, held from June 18–20, 2025, in Anaheim, California, brought together experts to explore the latest advancements in components, systems, standards, and grid interface technologies that support efficient power conversion across the full spectrum of electrified transportation.

Eight poster presentations from five EcoCAR teams—Georgia Tech, McMaster University, University of Alabama, The Ohio State University and Wilberforce University, and West Virginia University—were accepted to the conference and featured on June 18. Their work was showcased alongside the University of California, Riverside’s EcoCAR Cadillac LYRIQ, which was on display during the event. The technical posters spanned a wide range of topics including Adaptive Cruise Control, half shaft design, and simulation of Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communications and controls. Student representatives were on-site to present their research and network with attendees.

“It is an honor to be given the opportunity to attend a premiere academic conference and present my work with the EcoCAR program,” said Vincent Lombardi, McMaster Project Manager. “This week I have the chance to learn from my peers as well as from industry professionals while representing the EcoCAR program. If it weren’t for EcoCAR I would have never been in academia nor had the chance to attend this conference and show off all the hard work our team has done. For me, getting to present at ITEC shows the true value of the EcoCAR program and I feel very grateful for all the opportunities the program has provided me.”

Teams also had the opportunity to engage with several EcoCAR sponsors in attendance, including MathWorks, Speedgoat, dSPACE, and AVL—deepening their understanding of the technologies they use in the competition and building professional relationships with leaders in the field.

“Attending ITEC 2025 has been an incredible experience—not only for sharing our team’s work, but for the opportunity to connect directly with industry professionals, including some of our own EcoCAR sponsors,” said Satvik Sudhir, Ohio State University EcoCAR PCM Lead. “I’ve learned about the latest advancements in controls in the industry and had the opportunity to share my own work with professionals who work on electrification and controls. Being able to ask questions, exchange ideas, and connect directly with people doing this work every day has made the conference especially meaningful and motivating for me.”

EcoCAR’s presence at ITEC 2025 showcased not only the technical expertise of its student participants, but also the program’s impact as a bridge between education and industry. Through poster presentations, hands-on exhibits, and direct engagement with industry leaders, EcoCAR students had the opportunity to demonstrate their innovations, expand their networks, and see firsthand how their work contributes to shaping the future of transportation.
