Catherine Fife, Waterloo’s Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), came by the University of Waterloo Alternative Fuels Team (UWAFT) garage recently to see the car and meet a few members of the team. It was a great opportunity for the team to interact with a local political leader whose interests align with the competition. It also helped the UWAFT achieve local support and encouragement from an influential member of the Kitchener-Waterloo community.
The team began by providing Catherine with a quick overview of the competition, their efforts, and their progress. Catherine’s involvement in economic development and innovative projects proved to be a great match with the team; she was very enthusiastic about the project and the potential for engineering breakthroughs. Catherine’s involvement with the automotive industry also provided great insight and perspective for the team.
During the visit, Catherine also took a ride in the car, familiarizing herself with the car’s functionality and re-engineered features. Her enthusiasm towards the project was only increased by the test drive.

The team enjoyed their visit with Catherine and hope to work with her again soon!
