Where Are They Now: MSU’s Jagdeo Singh

Written by: Grace McQuirter

For over 3 decades, the Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition (AVTC) series has empowered students to gain real-world experience while contributing to cutting-edge advancements in automotive technology. Mississippi State University’s EcoCAR team has been a shining example of how this program prepares its members for impactful careers. One alumnus whose story stands out is Jagdeo Singh, who credits EcoCAR with shaping his professional path and technical expertise.

Jagdeo’s academic journey began with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and later continued to a graduate degree in electrical and computer engineering. His four years on the EcoCAR team spanned several roles, from PCM subteam member during the Mobility Challenge to Chief Engineer and PCM Graduate Lead in the EV Challenge. Reflecting on his experiences, Jagdeo emphasized how EcoCAR provided him with hands-on opportunities to work with embedded systems and diverse testing environments, including Model-in-the-Loop (MIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and Vehicle-in-the-Loop (VIL). These skills laid the foundation for his current role as a HIL Application Engineer at dSPACE Inc., where he develops software tailored to the automotive industry’s testing needs.

One of Jagdeo’s most notable accomplishments on the team was leading efforts to refine advanced systems like adaptive cruise control, resulting in a successful demonstration at the Transportation Research Center. He fondly remembers the technical successes and team achievements, such as watching the Blazer come to life for the first time during the Mobility Challenge, troubleshooting custom AC lines, and winning 1st place in the EV Architecture Technical Design Review. These moments not only solidified his technical capabilities but also strengthened his problem-solving and leadership skills.

Jagdeo’s journey underscores the transformative impact of the EcoCAR program. By fostering innovation and collaboration, EcoCAR equips students with the tools to excel in the automotive industry and beyond.
