Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition (AVTC) alumnus Henning Lohse-Busch found a way to stay connected to the EcoCAR 2 program long after graduation. Formerly a Team Leader on Virginia Tech’s FutureTruck team, Henning currently dedicates his time to AVTCs as a judge and event captain.
“I’m very fortunate to be able to give back to the student competitions,” he said. “It’s amazing to see the new heights that these competitions have reached and it is good to see that a lot of these students are getting the same chances and opportunities that I’ve had.”
Henning is currently a Research Engineer at the Advanced Powertrain Research Facility at the Argonne National Laboratory. “I’m incredibly lucky that my current job allows me to be a part of the student competitions and allows me to actually make a difference in the world,” he said.
He notes that the competitions are quite different from when he participated, but only in the best of ways. “The student competitions have really come a long way. The program today is structured with the three-year process – the design, all the way to the prototyping in the refinement year – and that is just a great thing.”
